Dolphin Medal is Heading Home
Club Pendant Set to Return to Bath
The club recently received an email from a lady, Mrs Earles, who made contact to say she was in possession of a club medal dating from 1913. The medal was awarded to L Weare for a 1/4 mile distance. The sterling silver pendant (pictured below) is very similar to the medal which currently resides in the trophy cabinet at the Sports Centre.
Following the initial contact from Mrs Earles a number of emails have been exchanged
with Barbara Cutting who enquired about the possibility of bringing the medal home.
Early on in the exchanges it became apparent that this would not be quite as straightforward
as popping out in the car to collect the medal -
It transpires that the medal was bought locally (in Australia) at either an auction or a second hand shop and the details of it's past and how it came to end up on the other side of the World are unknown.
Mrs Earles has generously agreed to return the medal to Bath Dolphin whilst in return the club have made a donation to the Earles who are in the process of preparing for a forthcoming cruise. So the medal will soon be heading home to join it's likeness and take pride of place in the club trophy cabinet.
