About Us
The club operates the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming. This plan allows the swimmer to develop their skills by undertaking a number of different disciplines. The opportunity to discover a range of aquatic activities allows the swimmer to develop a broader skill base and become a more rounded and skilful performer. The plan aims to increase the range of opportunities open to the swimmer in terms of future development and provide a sound skill basis for those wishing to progress to competitive swimming.
The National Plan for Teaching Swimming has clearly defined criteria set over eight levels. These range from foundation to pre competition development. Having satisfied the criteria for a particular level the swimmer will gain the award of an appropriate certificate and badge and will be eligible to progress to the next level.
Entry to the squad is by invitation with swimmers usually joining at the age of nine
years or above.
Squad swimmers are trained by (or under the supervision of) qualified
level three and four coaches. The swimmers follow a 12 month targeted cycle, directed
by the Head Coach and have the opportunity to attain swimming awards appropriate
to their age and ability. The club offers a number of squad options based on age
and committed availability. Session days and times are dependant upon which squad
the swimmer is a member of.
Members of the squad are expected to compete in the galas for which they qualify/are selected. This could include the Club Championships, the County Championship, National Swimming League and Junior Leagues as well as competing in open meets.
All of our Teachers, Coaches and Administrators are volunteers (no payment for services
is received by them) and the majority of them have very busy full time jobs.
We are
always looking for new volunteers to help spread the load, either on poolside or
with administration, for which training if required is available.
Please speak to
someone at the Dolphin desk on Tuesday evenings if you can spare an hour or two to
help.
We also need qualified officials. Courses are available for timekeepers and
judges. A timekeeper’s course must be taken before the judge’s course and we encourage
current timekeepers to qualify as judges and for new timekeepers to come along behind
them.
We look forward to welcoming you as a member of Bath Dolphin Swimming Club.
