British Schools Modern Biathlon -
Crystal Palace Sports Centre, London, Sunday 28th March 2011
Congratulations to the members of Bath Dolphin that yesterday took part in the national final of the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships. Those competing yesterday at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre had already gained qualification via two qualification rounds so the standard of competition was naturally of the highest order. Each competitor in a modern biathlon event competes in a timed swim and a subsequent timed run (the distance for each discipline being dependent on the age of the competitor). The times for each element are compared against a standard table and are converted into points. The competitor with the highest combined points total within each age group category is declared the winner.
Continuing in a rich vein of sporting form Laura McNab finished in a most impressive 2nd position in her Year 5 age group. Competing for the Royal High School Laura also picked up a bronze medal in the team competition with Bath Dolphin swimmers Imogen Clayton and Natasha Reid.
In the girls Year 6 age group Izzy McNab finished in a very respectable 8th position.
From the boys squad Max Granger, representing Prior Park, finished in 13th position and missed out (by the very narrowest of margins) on gaining a trophy for fastest swimmer in his Year 9 age group category.
Other Bath Dolphin swimmers who competed in the final were Charlotte Penney & Sophie Langman.
