National Arena Swimming League Round 1
Littledown Centre Bournemouth, Saturday 10th October 2009
Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed in the first round of the National Arena Swimming League and who helped to ensure that this year’s campaign began with a memorable victory. From the off the Dolphin squad produced a string of fine performances, across all age groups, which meant they were always in contention for the top honours.
As the evening progressed the fight for first place boiled down to a close run tussle between Bath Dolphins and host club Bournemouth B, which kept the travelling supporters on the edge of their seats. Throughout the night the Dolphin swimmers displayed a tremendous team spirit and determined resolve which ultimately saw them draw ahead in the closing races to seal the win. Well done to all!
The results from the evening make impressive reading and reveal that from the 50 races in total Bath Dolphin gained a total of 38 top three finishes (13 firsts, 18 seconds and 7 thirds). In total there were seven individual winners on the night who were Charlotte Penny, Jasper Lye, Alex Joy, Tom Smith (2 wins), Sophie Purnell, Ryan Gay & Rebecca Cornish whilst a further five wins came in relay events.
The final gala points positions were Bath Dolphin 223 points, Bournemouth B 208 points, Bridgwater 180 points, Exmouth 168 points, Bristol North 157 points & Oddicombe 103 points.
