National Arena Swimming League Round 2

Saturday 14th November, Bath Sports & Leisure Centre

Saturday saw another fabulous performance from the Bath Dolphin squad as they fought off strong opposition to finish overall winners of this second round gala. In many ways the events followed a similar pattern to that of the first round with the fight for top honours boiling down to a closely fought duel between the top two teams (Salisbury Stingrays this time pushing the Dolphin swimmers all the way). It was nip and tuck from the off and the difference between the two teams was never more than a handful of points but a strong finish in the relay events saw the Dolphin swimmers pull ahead to clinch the win.

Hugely exciting, edge of the seat entertainment for the large number of home supporters.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who took part - another well fought win brought about by determination and team spirit. Well done everyone!

The final gala positions 1st Bath Dolphin 221 points, 2nd Salisbury Stingrays  211 points, 3rd Dawlish 174 points, 4th Bristol Central 170 points, 5th Bristol North 133 points and 6th Oddicombe 126 points.

The quality of the evenings performance was further underlined by the fact that a total of six Bath Dolphin National League records were broken. Three of these records dated back to the nineties with the longest standing having been set in 1993.

These new records were gained by the under 11 girls freestyle relay team (Charlotte Penny, Charley Bond, Esmee Charley & Rebecca Harnden); the Ladies open medley relay team (Emma Oliver, Kirby Littlewood, Sophie Purnell & Rebecca Cornish); Emma Oliver in the Ladies open backstroke; Oli Littlewood in the Mens open breaststroke, Sam Purnell in the Mens Open freestyle and the Ladies open Freestyle relay team (Chloe O’Sullivan, Kirby Littlewood, Emma Oliver, Rachel Li, Sophie Purnell & Rebecca Cornish).
